Hi folks.

I'm planning a trip to Tampa/St Pete area the first week in July, and I understand the snook will be spawning at this time and are pretty thick even in the surf. Could someone advise me as to location, technique, etc. I like using jerk baits, (goocha), etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Eddie

Cast parallel to the surf as the Snook sometimes hangs very close to shore. I've fished Ft. Meyers and Sanibel area in the surf and done well using white bucktail jigs and spoons. Other people have done well using X-Raps and Yo-Zuri too. During low tide look for the trough and sandbar. This way you know where the fish will be cruising thru during high tide. It wouldn't be bad to bring some Terror Eyes or some DOA shrimp. Good luck.

To add if you can get a hold of some live white bait free line them with 30#fluro right in the surf you will have really good action if the lures aren't getting hit. In the summer the water is very clear you will be able to spot them along the shorelines.Cast out a few feet in front of them use 1/0 or 2/0 non offset circle hooks.Look for old tree stumps, rocks sticking out of the water, anything that they can ambush prey around and closer to the passes will have a lot of snook.Good luck try and give us a report if you can...... :happyfisherman: Please handle the big females properly by supporting them under the belly when you have them outta the water and if you can avoid using lures with treble hooks.

I think Bolo is right on the money. My best success is on the incoming tide, but I've only fished for them on the east coast.
