Awesome! I recently bought a Penn Squider 140 on ebay for about $30. I cleaned it up, greased it, ordered the lock screw that was missing and got it cookin again.

With practice I backlash rarely but mostly when I need 2 go far. I can't tell how helpful that thumb trick is going to be.

thanks man.

By the way that 140 has 30yrs behind it and some good karma :reeling:

Does it work in the real world? Anyone tried this yet?

This, if it works, could be a great way to get em out at night when you really canot see.

My 140 hasn't backlashed like that since but I can see it working out @ night or anytime.

I backlashed @ my home to try it out...it works. Just apply that thumb w/ pressure when casting, especially with ur thumb wet 2 avoid burning. :thumright:

Abu Garica and Calcuttas are great reels for casting lures. I fished with the Abu Garica this weekend passed and did well with it. I consider these reels to be user friendly.

I use to have a abu back in the day. It was cool until it would backlash.

Do it long enough and you will have fewer backlash. It is all on the feel. You can not force the cast or the spool with move faster then the line. That is when you have to put your thumb down to slow the spool.

Oh yeah i hear ya.... i got tired of learning to fish with one and decided it was time to put the birds nest down and it was time to keep fishing and not untangling backlashes. lol

Thanks Bolo! Wish I would have seen this a a few weeks ago. Bird nested the hell out of my abu... decided to cut the freaking line out of shear frustration... Still need to practice the Abu, getting the hang out it though! :happyfisherman:

I wish I understood how that fixes it, but hey, if it works it will save me a lot of frustration.

Thanks for the tip . I quite often have problems , when casting long distances , with large baits . I'll definately give it a try .
