My buddy just got an old canoe so we decided to take a test ride and see if we could find some snappers and trout.
Its been a long time since I've been in a canoe but it was quite fun yelling at each other as canoe rocked close to tipping.
managed to find some nice snapper and a stray trout. Also had some snook busting baits right next to the boat but no bites. Fought a nice 30lb tarpon for around 10 minutes. As he was getting tired and close to the boat he made one last jump for freedom and nearly landed on my lap and soaked me. it was his lucky jump and he threw the hook and swam away. Had a 5 foot shark swim right up to the chum which was pretty cool. Thought he was going to grab it and tow us around. Lots of fun being in the canoe. Having large fish swim all around the boat is sweet also.
As we were fishing we could see scattered shrimp swimming around us and I knew that had to be running so I hopped in the truck and hit the bridge. They weren't running solid but you would get 1 to 5 shrimp per cast and most were big jumbos. The rain and wind moved in which sucked but at least I had enough for a couple meals.
here's a pic of the catch.
