This weekend my girlfriend caught a few Black Drums. Since we dont get much Black Drum on the east coast i was not fimilar with the species size and season closures. I brought my lawstick and a waterproof Saltwater Fish ID booklet with me. What a great tool to have. I hope all members including newbies and veterans of the forum carry them. Maybe our practices will rub off and see more people carrying lawstick and ID booklet. Just a thought I wanted to share.

I always carry a measuring tape and an ID card. Where did you get that waterproof ID booklet at?

Got a link or a number of shop that sells them?

By the way, where'd you catch those black drum at? Over at Captiva?

I caught quite a few when I was over there.

Last year we caught I think 3 black drum at Mingo.

Good point on the booklet. I need to invest in one even though I barely keep anything more than Snapper.

Most bait shops carry them....but most people think they cost too much
You would think that people that take over/under and out season fish would do it at nite.
Or in areas that alot of people don't go too....Wrong!!!
these people are everywhere... I have seem more people during the day keep fish, than at nite this year...

8) Wrong. There are tons on the east coast. Just further north is all.

I catch a good number of black drum this time of the year at Lake Worth bridge west of the pier on the northeast side. I use large live shrimp and large fiddler crabs.

To get back on topic, maybe FWC should issue some type of leaflet with pics and size limits of the most often caught fish,I bought my first non resident saltwater licence from Wal-mart at cost of $47 and the only info on it is a phone no. basically it just a till receipt. Its not a problem for me as I practice catch and release,I have,nt taken a fish for the table for over 20 yrs, cant even remember how to fillet one,but many out of state visitors are trying to catch something for consumption and are probably not familiar with species ID ,size and catch limits.I can identify many species now thru info ,pics that I have seen on this excellent forum but many esp.newcomers and visitors dont have either the time or inclination to do this so a page of fish ID,limits with licence and a warning of fines, penalties may help-just my humble opinion. :|

Mickey I agree, but at the same time there are limits for fish all around the country from fresh to salt water. If you plan on fishing an area I believe you should do your research. If you're too ignorant then you deserve the penalty if caught.

I got into bass fishing because everyone kept every salmon they caught. Now here in Maine the salmon fishing is awful. I have a hard time keeping a fish now. I've seen what has happen here.

FWC has a book they put out at tag offices that is in color and is very good. You can cut the pages out and have them laminated. each 8x10 has 3 fish on each side , along with a good descriiption.
Sizes and bag limits change too frequently for any of that to be in a book they only publish once a year.
