Well it seems my motor has seized up on me. I suspect it was due to the oil I mixed with the fuel for the motor. It looked a little off to me the night before but didn't think.


I was put in a situation where 4 other people's lives were in my hands. We got caught in a bad storm with lightning. And although I had an idea what was going on I chose to limp us in and further damage the motor. The motor can be replaced/repaired people's lives can't


She will go in the shop in about 2 weeks hope to have it back by aug

Hope you get it replaced cheap.

You did the only right thing there was to do.

Material things come and go but lives have a final to it that does not come around no more.

Great decision lives > boat, but what kind of motor do you have that you have to do a mix, it doesn't have a reservoir that automatically feeds oil or the hand pump that allows you to pump more in? Only times I had to mix was for like small motors below 40hp.

you did what you had to do. I hope your friends appreciate what you did and maybe could help on the repairs. I own a boat, and I know how it goes when it comes to friends that you take out fishing, helping you on repairs, especially when the boat breaks down while they are out fishing with you. Those "friends" usually seem to disappear real quick when you get back to the dock.

I mean we were sitting in the rain which is fine but than the lighting came. We took all the rods out of the t top and I started her up.

I figure it's going to cost about 2-3GS to fix

Phil your more than welcome to come with me on a kayak trip inshore or offshore. Take your pick. I do appreciate a person who welcomes a stranger on board

I'm really sorry for the motor friend but you called it right. In that situation there is only one captain and he calls it the way he sees it for the safety of the crew that put their trust (and lives) in his ability to make these fast decisions. I would sail with you any day.

dam i feel u on that.... got a guy down here at Erics outboards specializing in Yamaha if u need him .. also if u need to get on the water for your fix mean while. hit me up we could do a flamingo trip..i prefer weekdays but would consider a weekend if its your only out..

so now im going from acarbed motor to a EFI motor

The only guy I know that head up optiMax engines was very happy.
FYI when you have it checked out you can have the engine history taking off the onboard computer and look for red lines and another possible damage

Got a quote of 2500 to replace my power head rebuild carbs and rebuild fuel pump so I'm tossing it around. That extra grand can go to new bolsters on the gunnels that have torn. Btw I'll be back by August 1 either way

You'll be happy you went with newer power. I spent a whole year fumbling around with an old outboard and after throwing thousands at it, I gave up and bought something else. Good luck with the new set up
