What a day What a day. Went up there with a friend of mine to race his mini funny car with a CBR1000 motorcycle motor in it, bone stock, in the 11.50 index class on the 1/4 mile. He qualified 1st out of 32 cars with a 11.503, 3 thousandths of a second off of a perfect time. We got to the semi finals of eliminations, and at the start line I noticed fire under the car, right before I got to the car it went out, so I let him go. Well he dumped about 1/2 gallon of water on the track, at the starting line, which meant, he ran this motor to 11,000rpms through 4.5 gears, with no water in the motor....NOT GOOD. Anyway, he puts water in the motor and comes back to the staging area, and the motor is over heating, 249 degrees, and they want to hot lap us. We told the track people, we cant run right now the motor is to hot, it's at 249 degrees, we HAVE to let it cool down. They said, run it or forfeit the race/event. Well, my friend decided he wasnt gonna go out without a bang, so he said screw it lets go for it, if we blow up, we blow up, at least I can say I tried. We both knew at that pont, it would be a miracle to finish the race without blowing the motor, let alone win the race. Anyway, we get up to the line, and the light goes green, my friend cuts a .0001 reaction time to the other guys .0712 reaction time....race is won right there, just past the 1/8th mile I hear POP and see a puff of smoke come from my friends car, I knew it was done right then and there. Needless to say the guy who my friend was racing even said "you had me beat the whole way, then you disappeared, what happened?" Talk about a kick in the balls, what a way to go out. As the underdog throughout the day, we go out with a blown motor in the finals cause the dumbasses running the show wouldnt let the motor cool down. I dont think we will be running that event again.
Anyway here is a video of the car, at another track, the video is 3 minutes long, but it's good! Remember, this is a bone stock, 125hp motorcycle motor (CBR1000), in a mini funny car that weighs 450lbs with the driver in it. Its known as the Giant Killer, for good reason, its been known to beat a few V8's in it's day, as you will see in the video.
