Dang look at all you fools on DFP, and I am stuck up in Central FL for another few days !

GREAT to see everyone having fun ! See you all down there soon !! BTW It is common to get smoking king hits and no solid hookup - they are not as easy as it sounds to hook up solid on trolley's, but great to see you guys nailed a few :toast:

Paulieboy, I just hated going into the office Friday AM - I knew it was moments from goin OFF !!

Great catches everyone !

lol BOLO nice report. I had a great time hanging out all night even though I was useless around the house yesterday. I hung out for another hour or so and had one more Gog sliced. The pier rats started tearing the Macs up on artificials. I could tell it was time to go when the skunk ape anger started showing through with all the idiots casting diagonally instead of straight. Didn't get my first King from a pier, but had a blast trolleying for the first time. Ended up releasing two nice Macs and missing 5 or so more hits probably because of my lack of a stinger.

Mickey lol the proof is in the pics.

That sandal is no where near the size of James. That means you caught a tiny Mac. :D

Nice meeting you James and Rob. Yeah bolo, you whipped that king on your accurate. Gogs were still hard to come by during the night. We only had like 6 by 2 AM, then finally found a school willing to play...somewhat. I landed two macks on a gotcha and crappie jig after Mikey left, and got cut off once. The guy wearing the orange Miami sweatshirt (forgot his name) absolutely got dumped on his trolley. Derek said smoker kind or large cobe.

It was fun, we'll have to do it again! See you guys in the keys.

James is immune to lighting strikes. He holds two guinness world records; one for the last known living Skunk Ape and the other for the most lighting strikes to the head. :D

Fished today. I didn't catch anything, nor did I even hook into anything :(

Saw one king come up while I was there. In general, slow day. Water stayed clear for the most part, and the wind was calm.

Bait was hard to come by in the morning (at least for me it was).

Crowd was OK, meaning only 6-7 rods per corner, which for DFP means a pretty calm day.

Just a comment about trolleys. I noticed a trolley rig with a 2 inch sardine on a worm hook. Now I am not a pier professional or even close. In fact, I read this site constantly to learn new things so I can try them out next time. But a dead sardine the size of my index finger, on a worm hook, going out on a trolley?

Good luck to those going out tonight!

Sincerely,

Hoser

I was at the pier today also. I tried every lure in my tackle box, every fishing tactic, snobbling, everything. Nothing. Pier was absolutely dead today, on a NE wind too! The only fish I saw come up was one kingfish and two triggerfish. Dazzit. Nothing else. Not even an undersize mangrove. Gogs were hard to get because one of those people that is ALWAYS THERE was SNAGGING THEM. Ballyhoo/sand perch easy in the surf. Didn't see any 'dines or pilchards, etc.

Heard the guy that was snagging gogs talking to another, said he fishes at Deerfield 6 days a week. I see him every time I go. How the heck can you fish that pier 6 days a week...

Did the hook look like this???

if so he might have been using a long shank hook...the long shank hook can keep the mackeral at bay from cutting you off if you are using a lite leader...

But if you say you saw an "actual worm hook" at deerfeild on a trolly...I wouldnt doubt it..LOL

Fished from 4am-10:30am. Dead calm and super clear water. Current was crawling. Gogs caught on bugs but you had to work them hard. Chipped in for chum and fished for hoos all morning. Two trolley rigs out and nothing to show for. Only fish that was flipped over the deck was a tigger fish. Got to meet a few regulars and enjoy the morning air. Saw 2 large hammerhead at the tee. The second hammer had to be a easy 12ft+. Frentals, where were you? :D

Nice to see more reports in this area and nice fishing guys.

hoser, back in the 80's it was common to use black long shank worm hooks when the macks refused hitting the silver ones. another common practice was to use belly strips of sardines, blue runners, cigar minnows, goggle eyes, and others strips on those hooks. Many used to use them under popping corks and I can imagine that some now use it on trollies. The small sardines do work for small 12 inch macks that you can use to get the big kings, even a shrimp or glass minnow will work too on the smaller worm hooks.

Hello,

Yeah, CubanExpress it was a worm hook, and in fact it was a black one like Cudaman said above. Thanks for the info Cudaman and Cuban! While I myself won't trolley dead bait on a worm hook (or without), it's interesting to see where it comes from.

I would like to apologize for this non-report post.

Sincerely,

Hoser
