Nice macs Ricky, and that wahoo is nuts. Won't see that one again any time soon...that fish must have been dying and got washed in.

That Wahoo looks sickly, don't know if I'd consider it lucky exactly for eating. But as for being wacky-crazy outta-place, yeah, for sure!

Interesting, If it was a good fish I am surprised but great luck that it was tasty and good to go in the pan. Congrats on one of many few wahoos from the shore :toast:

Tommy, Stop apologizing for the things you think you don't know, just report the best information that you have and that's what is appreciated. Adding reports, seeing what you see and what happens is good enough. In time you'll be giving us tide reports, moon phases temperature, current and bait conditions. Thanks for the report - Good Job :thumleft:

On my way to the pier. Hopefully for some macs and others.

Went to the pier Friday and yesterday, the "T" is still closed; don't know the real deal on it but it looks structural like it's sagging at the ends, allot of boards missing from Sandy, might be out of commission for awhile. If anybody knows what's going on please post.
Got out yesterday about 5AM stayed through 1PM. Sea was rolling and the current was almost not non existent but drifting North at times. Put out a chum bag because we had one and tried to get some hoos in but with no current we went through the motions without any landed. Some pilchards were in the surf and running up and down the boards and we were able to get some live bait out. Landed a few macs on lures, blue fish and jacks were around and got a few of each on top water plugs. Cool to see, when your ripping a wake in with a top water plug and see the fish tracking and then smash the top water and shaking with your plug in the upswing cool to see and I had a good fight on several blues and jacks. Got two keeper macs on a Zuri one in the modest range and the other weighed in just under 5lbs. Great day out. Friday landed bigger macs on live bait free lining the North Side, current was stronger Friday but shut down mid morning so the bite went south with the current.

Made it out today, bite was very slow. Current light to the south. Saw a nice spanish come up and I was cut with a live gog. Sent another one out and landed a 26inch gag. Saw a short cobe hooked but lost straight up and down. Will try to post pic of the grouper.

Where on the pier did you catch the gag? What rig did you use? Thx.

Think it will be crowded tomorrow in the morning?? I want to bring the boys, but not if its packed.. not sure everyone wants their lines crossed or to be snagged with a yozuri...

Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Just saw the post about the wahoo. Nice!!
Catching wahoo on the beach is rare to be sure, but wahoo stalking the beach happens around the same time every year. I grew up on A1A and every year when the turtle eggs started hatching we would go down to the beach and help the new borns get to the water.
Some would get stuck by an obstruction and if we didn't help them they would stop and die or get eaten by birds. Once they made it to the ocean they were on their own.
We could shoo the birds but we couldn't shoo the fish stalking the beach like Killer Whales hunting seals. (They knew where & when)
The biggest eater were the Wahoo. All we could do was watch as the wahoo would sky-rocket and even bullet the shore wave in 2 inches of water.

Time to use a realistic looking turtle lure then... May as well, might be the key to some slob fish...

Hows the T coming along? Have they even started working on it yet or still waiting on the permit?
