Juno Update

Post by TarponRob »

Sorry guys. I cannot get a digital image of the sailfish. The only picture is in the tackle shop on Juno Pier.

No sharks to update at this point, but I've heard a very promising report from Hobe Sound yesterday. There were a great deal of ladyfish, jacks, bluefish and mackerel on the beach there yesterday. Sharks were mowing through them and hitting spoons off the beach. Good Stuff is coming.

We have had a good number of mackerel at the pier all week. It is much like a summer bite. We even caught bonita on Tuesday and Wednesday. You have to be early or late. Middle of the day is all about cobia.

For the second week in a row I caught a keeper cobia. I have pictures, but do not know how to upload them. Last week's fish was 21 lbs and this weeks was 25lbs. I have been eating very well.

That's all from Sharkey's Tackle. Stop by and see us soon.
If your not there you can't get the bite.

There were 12 cobia caught yesterday at Juno. The bite is getting better. Hopefully I have loaded the images correctly so you can see my two fish from this past week.

There are specific jigs made for cobia. You can find the mass produced versions at most tackle shops. We carry hand tied cobia jigs at Sharkey's and, as far as I know, we have the only ones locally. The jig is usually 3 oz.'s with a squid shaped head, but there are also croaker jig heads and turle back jig heads. All work well when sight fishing for cobia.

Tight lines.

Juno Update

Post by TarponRob »

Happy Holidays to all!

The cobia action has slowed up here in Juno the past 5 days due to dirty water, but there is good news. The mackerel bite has been picking up daily with larger fish coming in the mornings and evenings. Yesterday I would estimate there were 200 mack's caught. There are a good number of bluefish being caught at night. No pompano or permit to report at this time.

Last night I experienced two things that have never happened to me. At sunset we were catching large sardines, on Sabiki's, at the end of December. Apparently no one told the sardines that it is winter and they are supposed to be in warmer waters. Even stranger than that, at approximately 7:30 PM I witnessed 5 bluefish caught on Krocodile's. It was pitch black and they were biting like they could see the spoon perfectly. I will be trying it for myself this evening. It may be the new way to catch bluefish at night, once you know they are there.

Oh yeah, we have hooked 4 or 5 spinner sharks each of the past three nights around 7:00 PM. They are averagin in the 50 - 60 pound range.

Overall, I am really happy with the bite. There is plenty to catch up here.

That's all from Sharkey's Tackle. Tight Lines.

On the way to Pompano Beach from Daytona, I stopped by Juno Pier. I fished from 4:30 to 6, and BOY, were the macks biting. I hooked two and lost both. One was really big, around 5 lbs. Many guys limited out on macks there (15!). Gotchas and crappie jigs, as well as diamond jigs were the ticket. I lost one Gotcha...I feel this is gonna get expensive...

I did catch a blue runner about 8", and a 6lb bluefish.

How will the approaching cold front affect the fishing?

Slow day at Juno today...some small macks and bonitas busting bait out of range. Only blue runners caught.

Hooked up into what felt like a bonita before it spit my Gotcha. Maybe the cold front will bring the fish.
