No offense to Maggie and Pnut and the others in that video but that isnt the Cobia crowd. More just a couple of the regulars that come out all the time to whatever might be there.
The Cobia start coming through in the fall and work their way through into the spring. In the fall the fish are mostly on bottom rays, then into January the bigger fish are free floating by and then later in the spring they are mostly on manta rays. Thats the way it has been the last couple years at least. In November we will come up on Manta after Manta and there wont be a single Cobia on them and then you see a bottom ray it will have 10 fish on it. Then in the spring it will totally the other way, its weird.

Almost had to scrap for saying "hey your not going to keep that snook are you??" a large 40inch breader. It got bellyflopped on the release and died man they started blaming me and talking all kinds of smack. F..k Them! I was once again outnumbered and kept my mouth shut, and knife close. I didn't push the issue. Anyway Blue runners are super thick as well as white baits. Snook and bonito in numbers if you know how to fish it. I went with live crabs to catch permit and ended up losing one to a poorly tied hook. I'll try it again if I can get my hands on some crabs.
you lost one ? what knot did you do .you caught the crabs at the bridge ?

Purchased crabs, and uni knot snell on a circle hook. In haste I tied this great knot half ass and still used the rig. I uni knot everything and never have a problem. I will not make this mistake in the future.

Its always hard to catch crabs at Juno or Lake Worth in the summer and if you do they are usually tiny.

They are solid in the Winter at both places but it seems that the Permit are mainly late spring and into the summer now. So the crabs arent there when the fish are, so off to the tackle for blue crabs it is.

I've noticed this over the past two summers. Problem is if the shrimpers in Miami, so i'm told, arn't going shrimping this time of year then there are no blue claw crab bycatch for the bait shops to buy and sell.

You are correct Boca Jetty. But I still am able to buy medium size crabs down in the Keys. About 3"-4" across. I do not like using small crabs but they do work.

I was out there today around 8:30am to 1:00pm. pilchards were there mixed in with Mojarra and some other bait. saw few fish caught which wasn't much. they where runners and cudas and thats it. even though it sucked out there, at least the pier was very very clean. cleaner than all the other piers(because it is new of course). 8)

The water at Juno has been dirty and the bluefish have been solid so I took a trip down to LW yesterday morning. Saw one big Mutton come up around 7 or 8 pds and I must have caught 30 short pomps. Pretty much every cast you got a short. I ended up catching two keepers, one 13 to the fork and one 18 to the fork my personal best to date. Not much else that I saw. Its funny how the bluefish have gone right around LW pier, I didnt see a single bluefish caught and every where else I have gone you cant avoid them.

We fished Tuesday afternoon and caught lots of bluefish at Lake Worth Pier. We also caught lots of short pompano but did manage a few keepers. Lost the biggest Pompano I ever had on just before we left. Left the pier net at home and no one had one. Tried to lift it but line ended up braking. Everyone guessed it to be around 5lb to 6lbs.

Going to give it a try in the morning. Will post rsults.

Good luck to all.
