Dania Pier Fishing Reports 2012 "ONLY REPORTS"

Started fishing about 9:30 and finished up about 2:30. The wind was rippin' out of the east, the tide was incoming and the water was cloudy green. I was about 3/4 of the way to the T and the bite was pretty good today. Tied on my favorite Yo-Zuri and made a test cast prior to filling the bait bucket and BAM hooked a nice 18" Mack. The bait was thick, but there was no action on pilchards or anything else I saw. Artificials seemed to be the only thing producing. The wind was too much for the Yo-Zuri and the action seemed to be deeper so I switched to a red and white Gotcha. That did the trick. Pulled in 6 more macks over the next 3 hours. Also had two drop-offs and numerous test-bites.
The best "one that got away" was a new looking spinning outfit. I got it right up to the rail and the tangle broke.
I heard tales of some blues and pompanos, but I didn't see them. The pier was a little crowded, but pretty orderly. A good day.

nice macs! looking to stock up on some bait for the weekend trip. how's the bait situation there been these recent days?

pilchards are on and off around the T, dinky macks are pretty solid and easy to catch

nice. thanks. ill probably go ahead and wet a line or two while catching me some bait.

The bait has been plentiful and nice quality. I drop a chum bag and in 15-20 minutes, you got all you can use. A few weeks ago it was ballyhoo, last week I caught really nice gogs and greenies and this Sunday was pilchards a plenty. One problem...the macks weren't hittin' bait. I checked the stomachs on all seven macks and found one shrimp. The rest were empty. I tried live pilchards, cut pilchards; nothing worked. Artificials were the only things getting hits. The red and white Gotcha took 6 of 7.

nice thanks. yeah more than likely i'll take my buddy out there, he hasn't fished in a while, so while we're racking up bait we may try for some action hoping weather and all the right events happen the time we arrive.

Was out there Saturday from noon to 4. Not much bait and very slow action. Caught a nice tan.

Quiet for me also on Sunday - from 6:00 am to 9:00am. Nothing for me. A couple of reels screamed around me, but nothing was brought in.

Not that many people fishing this past saturday. At least in the time period i was there.

I went diving on the reef, i saw 2 medium schools of dinky macs. Looked like cero's not 100% sure.

Fished dania yesterday from 4-8pm. The action was pretty slow until 6pm when the schools of macs and blues started to come through. If you had a line in the water you probably caught a Mac. Crappie jigs, gotchas, and live pilchards and herring were getting the job done. I personally got worked by a snook free lining a bait for Macs. There was plenty of bait around the T until sun down.

i was there yesterday an there wasnt much besides a few small macs
i kind of though it was pretty funny everyone going nuts over 14inch macs an 16inch bluefish my lil dawg fishman nicko caught the biggest mac of the day

Lots of small Macks for a few weeks now. I can't be bothered with them little things. I am even catching them on my Pomp rods when I reel in and they attack my hooks. I had to fish the T a few days back because it was rough. Those little Macks kept killing my rigs in packs as soon as I'd hit bottom. I don't know why everyone keeps them. They are so small. They should raise the size limit.

same thing happened to me this friday...caught a mack on my pomp rig while bringing in my line...i totally agree with the raising of the size limit on macks...at least 14

fished today afternoon till dark water ckear south west wind macks everywhere as usual couple nice 1s if you throw the bigger lures and put your time in but other than that mostly dinks, bluefish as well on lures and bottom baits, seen a guy hook a big cobe wrapped him around the piling and that was that , moved down a little from the T and caught a slot snook

lots of bait as well!
