You can go tubing down those rivers as well. Be prepared to be cold as hell in those rivers
What are spinners?cvstrat wrote:Helen is a strange place - unique is one way to describe it. Anyway, luckily for you there is fishing to be done there. The Chattahoochee River runs right through the middle of the town. It's a colder river so it does hold trout pretty much year round. If you want to go off on your own I'd take a really light spinning outfit and a few small inline spinners like mepps, blue fox, panther martin, etc. 4lbs text line and some small spinners and you should be able to hook up.
Tubing is huge there. In fact it's probably the only reason most anyone even goes to Helen. Places like http://www.coolrivertubing.com/ will be sending hundreds of drunken assholes down the river in bright yellow tubes. There will be no fish to be caught on any days that they are running, so you might wanna check on that. If you have access to transportation, you can head further North to avoid that mess. There are some other rivers, streams, and lakes in the area too. There are professional guides available if you wanna do that. There's a federally protected catch and release trophy trout stream nearby too.
This site has a ton of good info:
