I'm building a Switch fly rod for fishing the surf. It is on a Rainshadow Blank and is 10'8" for 8wt. line. The Manufacturer calls for an 8WF line but I routinely fish a 9WF on my SAGE rods that are supposed to be fished with an 8WF.

Be interested in suggestions from anyone using one on the beaches down here with suggestions as to fly line brands and sizes.

Depends on how you fish the surf. If you think you'll be able top pick up and carry alot of line, the airflo tactical heads are 33' long and have worked great for me the past few seasons. They have them in intermediate and full sink, and they're actually tapered, so you can lay it down real pretty even when using a full sink head. I use a 30lb airflo miracle braid running line with it.
