So once I'm over in the eastern part of the state, I'd like to try for peacock bass. I've read a few articles that mention winter/spring is better than the summer - is this true and if so, do they remain a viable target regardless.
Also, what are some good flies to use for these fish? Someone mentioned clousers in 'firetiger' color and I have tied up a few of these.
Thanks

They are always around, unless its cold.
Pretty much any small sinking fly works, any color especially white, they can't seem to resist the jerky motion of a fly.

I do not fly fish. But the peacock fishing has been amazing lately. I have been using bright colored worms on top. Since there is alot of debris I make it a weedless rig, therefore losing alot more fish then caught. In the last 4 days i have caught about 10-15 peacock, and probly lost about 15 more.

Try a clouser minnow, works great in 2,1, or 1/0 sizes. my personal favorite has been either the pink/white clouser, and the chartreuse/white clouser. really produces with peacock, largemouth, and pretty much anything that swims in the canals, snook included.
I get more takes on a slow retrieve for largemouth, and I speed up the retrieve for peacock. Heres some that I caught in the Ludlam canal, not my best, just the ones I have pics for

EDIT - Forgot to mention, the peacock in the picture is the female. hooked up and saw the male side to side with the female, what a bruiser. must have had another 6-8 inches on the female, much rounder...ran like crazy

Been seeing them again in a few of my spots.
Soon enough they'll be everywhere again.
Just look, you'll find them.
If I wasn't always working, I'd offer to put you on some pea's on fly.
