Building a rod for Pendulum cast

I want to resurrect my broken freaking-long rod as pendulum-casting rod...whatever that is...

a broken 5.4M (18foot) telescopic rod for a long time... All guides are gone... there supposed to be 5 pieces of blanks but the top pc blank missing...only 4 blanks left...reel seat can be reused and I may upgrade the grip...

When rod was in working condition, I pulled out 25LB striped bass with no problem at all jersey shore...so it has some back bone.
I used to make at least 250 yards line out from the spool......by walking about 100 yard into water and cast 150 yard and come back to sand spike rod holder...

You gonna use an Aussie Sidecast reel.

I mean pendulum all the way Australian style?

I may even be able to do that with my current 12 foot rocket launcher if I used 20LB braid...top guides may be a little too small...
With 18 foot rod 20LB braid, not that difficult at all... When there a good tail wind, it could even reach over 200 yard...

I used to be big time long caster with thinnest braid but in S FL, I changed all my lines thicker once I started to lose good fishes in piers and bridges.
(This is why most of my rods are long.)

The idea on pendulum cast just hit me after I saw how smooth the line goes thru guides from conventional reel when I tested my 9ft bridge rods.

It appears to me side cast reel will not go far...because of line friction with guide and within spool.
But you got the point...I may need a special conv reel that spool speed is fast but not too fast...I think torium 30 with some cast control will do...
I think besides casting skill and reel, another key is how smooth line goes thru guides system...

When long rod (14 ft or loner) is used, I saw those casting pro (right handed) use rod where reel seat is about foot from butt...
They use left hand to control the reel and right hand to hold rod and swing side way...I don't know why... but it seems very hard to reel in the line...

If you are going to build it I have a small 2 or 3 gallon compressor from when I had a train horn on my Burban

I think I can build the rod for spinner and conventional using acidrod concept as I can rotate each blank.
These blanks are supposed to be spineless. I recycle any guides as I don't want to spend any money...
cosmetically it may be ugly...

Here are pictures of my blanks...there supposed to be 5 pc blanks but top pc is missing so only 4 pc.
weight and length of 4 pc blanks when connected is 13'5" and 16oz (with reel seat and grib).
each blank is about 42"

13ft5in.jpg
I found 2nd blank was a little broken and split so I had to fix it. I recycled my infamous broken St Croix rod. I removed all guides and cut the st croix blank and wrapped carbon tape. I applied rod bond and inserted st croix blank inside of 2nd blank... This will make this rod no longer telescopic...but I need to make it stronger...

BTW, I found out additional reason why my St croix broke besides high stick... there was no under-wrap thread below guide... It was broken twice around bottom of guide foot... also guide foot wasn't sanded...was a little sharp...this is what happened when rod is built in China...

I finished wrap...ugly again...but this rod is one purpose...long cast...
total length is a little over 15"... I replaced missing blank with my broken St Croix where I remove all the guides and do one wrap on the whole blank and put the bigger guides.... heat gun was excellent to remove guides...
My initial feel is good. I hope I can cast 6 oz...

It would be waste of your time unless you can touch/exam the blanks and feel the condition ...
I found these blanks were damaged here and there as I am making progress. I had to do so many patch works to fix...
I ended up glue bottom three blanks together...so it is 9ft when folded and 15ft when unfolded...
At the end, I want to practice Pendulum cast with this rod... I may never fish with it...It may break...

BTW, I need a big rod tip for this rod...
Do you know if there is any local place I could buy rod tip?

The tip is big. I'm guessing around a 20 / 22 size.

Be careful loading it up for power casting. The last thing you want is the rod breaking at one of the multi pieces mid cast.

I ended up using 10 wire tip... otherwise, tube gets too big... ring size of wire tip was big enough for 20LB braid...
If this becomes a matter, I can change... I may modify a little after doing some real cast...

i applied epoxy to wraps on 4 bottom blanks... They got much stronger...
I bought flexcoat lite (thread finish epoxy) from chaosrod place... This place was dangerous...your wallet robber...

BTW, this lite build is much easy to handle than high build I have been using.

I ordered 300 yard of 20 LB braid... I will be ready to cast next week...

Don't slice your finger off trying to power cast with that crazy long rod and 20lb braid.
