Re: bridge sticks
I did one under thread and two top threads (it was hard to do single top thread. underthread color shows up through small gap)
Applying epoxy is even harder...
This(most guides) is far from being perfect...some bubbles but OK with me One guide has epoxy leak in under masking tape...it gets dirty with masking tape glue...I did some clean and second coating hoping it disappear but it is still there. Still on dryer...

Re: bridge sticks
yes you could sand it where you said it leak, with a very thin sand paper ,wrap the uncover foots you still got space to leave a little trim of purple ,or just cover all with light blue and re trim ,just make sure you pack thread ok ,over and out for today
once you re epoxy will look like nothing happend.

Re: bridge sticks
Here the release (rev0) of bridge stick #1 using Rare's KC blank. This rod is heavy duty...well I have to test it and prove it.
After some test, I will consider to fix guide foot by covering more thread as pointed out by Raul.
Rare
We need to go to Ch2... if break, it breaks.... Jared is bugging me to get my secret on sheepie bait and sending me non-stop text... I'd rather test the rod...
Here are pictures for you....... you said " Hey K, do whatever you want with this blank" So I did it.
First rod I ever played was bamboo stick. (I tried it to look like bamboo stick...not that easy)
BTW, no ribbon fish...I could only find one at my freezer

Re: bridge sticks
It wasn't as fun as my first one... my problem was waiting for reel seat...I lost half of my motivation just waiting...
I don't recommend to build the rod unless you have a production facility set up.
Hand wrap was so time consuming and boring... Applying epoxy drove me nuts...
Building a good rod is very hard... hats off to Raul and Ronnie

I found 1st guide off the tip is a little misaligned. I must forget to check the line up... It bothers me...
What do you recommend to fix this?

OK, bridge stick #2 is on the production line...
It is a new Calstar 9ft blank made of E- glass. BTG90J (30-60#).
I am building it without reel seat. I put 1/8" thickness cork tape. I will also put lightest reel... It will be lightest bridge stick...
I am also using 4 thread colors

Re: bridge sticks
Hard to judge from the blank...
It has more characteristic of graphite but stronger backbone...It has a great sensitivity... it does not have soft tip action like GF blank...
I think it would be great for long casting once used to casting... probably, it can handle up to 8 - 10 oz... Its mid bend (30-60#) is stiffer than GF900H (30-80#)... I think this rod backbone is deigned such way that I can do high stick without worrying about anything...lol

My granddaughter winds her kite string on a stick like you wrap your guides. Maybe you can make it even thicker in the middle for additional weight. With the fourteen guides in your plan that has to kick in another 10-12 pounds.kblue wrote:This(most guides) is far from being perfect...some bubbles but OK with meOne guide has epoxy leak in under masking tape...it gets dirty with masking tape glue...I did some clean and second coating hoping it disappear but it is still there.

KB those guides are not to long. You just wrapped to short. I hope they will not push out after a while or when really putting some muscle to it.
Amyway another classy rat rod.
BTW the masking tape trick needs practice and not sure what you did since the guides are wrapped wrong.
Anyway kudos for the effort

No way the same person made both of those rods Who made the really sweet looking Rod #2?

Re: bridge sticks
There has been almost 1 year gap after I did my first Calstar GF900H...so I forgot many things that I learned from trial and error and advice. But the slope of my learning curve between stick #1 and #2 is 90 deg...lolKingofthesea wrote:No way the same person made both of those rods Who made the really sweet looking Rod #2?
My problem on bridge stick #1 was top thread color and thickness... bright color thread shows everything going on the wrap after epoxy applied... And it seems to me black size A (thinner diameter) is more forgiving than size D when I wrap over a thread. If I do wrap on smooth surface like over a blank, size D is good... but it is not so good for wrapping over a thread (size D) unless thread teeth is perfectly in line, which is literally impossible for hand wrapping in level of my skill...

Re: bridge sticks
Pulley Ridge #1 was built last year for Boatless PR trip and didn't break yet.
Rare Bridge Man#1 : Gator KC-50-86 ( extended to 9')
Pulley Ridge #2: Calstar Grafighter 900H ( same blank as PR #1)
TooManyMinds Kblue #1: GATOR T90XH (This is lightest blank)
KOTS Out Of Box #1 :Calstar BTG90J (E-glass mixed with carbon)
My wrapping and epoxying skill improve over the time...But I highly recommend not to build your own rod if you will use hand-wrapping tool. Wrapping multiple thread on one guide on TooManyMinds took more than an hour... I only wrapped a few guides whenever I have time... So much time consuming... Wire Guide was hard to wrap... It is not fun project...
I still have to finish KOTS Out Of Box#1...I ran out of thread so ordered new one but Mudhole shipped wrong thread and now they just shipped right one...My house is mass too...All mad at me...

Re: bridge sticks
Oh it is called typo Boys... lightest line rate(20-50LB )...not lightest weight... I like its smooth bending...PaulieBoy wrote:Kblue are you saying the gator T90 is lighter then the grafighters??????
lightest rod is of course KOTS out of control #1 ( I should call KOTS Lost and Found...well too late it's done)
It doesn't even have reel seat... Deckhand rod.
But the rod gets heavy with Conv reel...not much point of light weight for bridge rods as long as not getting too heavy...

That's what I am gonna do for next couple of days...I plan to fix first 2-3 guides from reel seat. It seems those three guides and reel take most loading when it is bentpermitchaser wrote:Nice set ,they'll do d job ,did u cover the foul proof guides with thread ?

So, you need another reel to balance the rod. That's all
