Just FYI guys.
After being happy with Makaira, I checked narrow-spool.

Look at freespool speed @5:08.
I am entertaining idea of 2 speed narrow spool (M-5N II) for vertical jigging.

No, these reels are new to market.. That may be one of reasons why 5 years or 3 year factory warranties offered.

I would lile to know your reasoning for 2 speed on the jigger.
Those reels seem to be pretty darn good and Okuma is a reel I used for jogging without looking back.
Why the 2 speed and the narrow?

Yep, you dont need a 2 speed reel. For conventional reels I prefera narrow spool with a 4:1 gear ratio.

Weight difference between 1 and 2 speed for this particular model is only 0.3 oz. (15.4 oz Vs 15.7 oz)STRIZ wrote:I would lile to know your reasoning for 2 speed on the jigger.

Why the 2 speed and the narrow?
I don't need to bring grouper up fast (In fact, I can't)... I would use low speed to bring the fish vertically up.
Price difference is $30. ($189 Vs $219)
I figure narrow spool may help me do easy line laying for fast jigging while I get less line capacity.
Hit me up.
