Broke the top off my rod

Post by HumanClaymore »

So, I my 9' Tsunami Airwave met my ceiling fan last night. The two didn't get along so well. I've ordered a gluestick and new tip to try to repair, but I've never done this before. I pulled up a few YouTube videos and got the basic gist, but wanted to see if you guys have anything I should be wary of when trying to attach the new tip, or any pointers to help make sure it stays on.

Thanks, as always!

Make sure you clean the blank part where tip is going sand it a little bit with thin sand paper , I hope you got the right glue , I used epoxy sometimes or a resing that you melt with a lighter or torch.

Hmm. I may pick up some epoxy then. I got the gluestick from Bass Pro Shop - http://www.basspro.com/Fuji-Rod-Tip-Rep ... uct/16514/
Thanks for the tips on prepping the tip :)

Sweet. Thanks. This is exactly why I asked here. I love that rod. I'd hate to have to fix it a second time. I'll definitely pick up one of the two methods you suggested :)

The blank broke with the tip ? Or the broken tip still on blank?

Epoxy is not a good option because if you have to change the tip in the future, you'll have to cut it off. The heat glue allows it to be removed later on if needed, without further shortening the rod.

When you heat it carefully with a torch it will come off no need to cut it off .

It snapped off with some of the blank still attached. Only about two inches in total came off. I tried to heat the broken tip and remove the blank inside, but (newbie mistake) heated it too long and ended up melting it in there instead.

if the rod is 2' shorter might have to re wrap all the guides..run your line back in the guides and tie off to something.. apply pressure and see if line runs true.

Thanks, Linesider. I got a new top secured yesterday, but haven't had a chance to test it. Here's to hoping it'll be good to go. If not, I'll take it to one of the local shops and have them go to town on it :)
