Surf & Pier Fishing With Light Weight Tackle?
I noticed in youtube that some people use light weight tackle when surf & pier fishing. Unfortunately nobody says what tackle they're using. So what do the "Light Weight" tackle advocates use?

To me, light tackle is #12 test line on spanning reel with a 7-8ft fast tip rod. To other it is from #6 to #10 test and no more.
For bottom fishing,my light tickle is casting or spanning gears on #30 test line.

It depends on where you are and what you are targeting on what you are using. There are certain beaches I fish where I use my 6'6" inshore Ross and I slay the pompano and whiting, but on other hand, there are some beaches where you will be skunked without getting past the second bar which requires 12'+ rods. Light tackle usually means inshore stuff... Lemme know what your are trying to catch and where you are fishing and maybe I can help you out!

I would like to fish from Lakewood Pier as well as from the nearby shore. My present tackle is a 7' 30lb test medium heavy rod. My reel is an old shimano speedmaster 5000sm spinner with 20lb mono line. I'm not after any particular type of fish. Whatever grabs the bait i'll try to reel in. I''m a "catch & release" fisherman.
