Ladies and Gentleman... The John Deere Dockmaster

I needed a pier rod that could handle 30 lb snook mixed with Goliaths in the 100-350 lb range. The water is 25' deep, concrete pilings, and a very fast tide. The rod needed to handle 16 oz of lead and a bait up to about 5 lbs or so. I found an OLD 30-40 year old 130 lb class shark rod (wood handle) that was solid glass on south florida shark club forums back in august of 2011. I brought this to my local rod builder and told him time and money were no object. I said if John Deere ever built a monster rod, I wanted it to look just like that. Classic yet Elegant. I brought him the batson handle, and he did the rest. This is what I picked up 8 months later. A true one of a kind... And its solid glass. Something you dont see everyday. I think he did a fine job. Thank You Mike Westra from Lehrs Economy Tackle. You turned my dream into a reality!

The only reason I didn't go with a larger reel is that I don't put the rod down. I hold it at all times. No clicker fishing for me. This 30 weighs the exact same as my widespool 6/0. 49 oz but alot more easy to maneuver around. Plus an extra speed

Dockmaster, I'm glad those guy's at Economy Tackle did the rebuild. Older rods always deserve a second chance. Especially one's that are solid fiberglass with a length close to 8 foot. Judging by the thickness at the tip, that blank is going to slam dunk any fish swimming underneath the dock.
