Calstars are great blanks. But you shouldn't just say you want a size and buy it. You need to go feel these blanks to get the right fit that you want. It is easy to end up with a blank that is too stiff if you don't.

Mudhole's forever and a day away from me, and no place around here has them. So basically, I have to buy one and return it till I get the right one.

The 550 is a nice blank. Its main application is jig fishing westcoast style, but it could be used for what your intended purpose. It has a nice tip for tossing live bait but tons of backbone when you need it. Its a little-I mean A LOT-on the heavy side but if you're going to rest it on rail, you'll appreciate the strength of this blank. I've fished the 530 and 540 in the past and like those too. Can't go wrong with a Calstar.
