just spoke to my buddy on singer island and informed me our friend had his shakespear rod snapped in half last night by something. I have the same rod as a starter rod as well as another shakespear. now I def DO NOT want this to happen to me.

the 2 reels I run are baitrunner 6000d and captiva ide say 8000 series or size equivilent. I use the rods for pier fishing and snapper fishing. the captiva is mostly on my surf rod but like to put it on a smaller rods sometimes.

in the car world i feel im running stock rods right now and its time for an upgrade. ive got 2 built motors just need a chasis

Phil; Do you know if he locked the drag on that fish? Fastest way I know to break a rod is too much reel and not enough rod.

Phil - I gotta tell you, breaking a rod when it is used properly is a pretty rare event. "high stick" it though, and it'll snap like a twig.

For a baitrunner, I love my tsunami 10' rod. Fairly inexpensive and takes a licking...

I'd pair that rod with a 7-7.5' MH spinner for tossing lures, etc.... Star makes a nice rod as well as redbone (hurricane). Both can be found for ~$100.

If its a two piece rod it might have snapped at the ferrule.

i bet it was the drag to tight ,or he got tangle on the botton .instead of breaking the line with your hand ,people try do it with the rod.
