Anastasia State Park

Post by jbt12282 »

I'm heading out to anastasia for a few nights, never been there before. Does anyone have any advice on what parts of the park are best for fishing? Thanks to all for any advice :toast: ... First opportunity to try out the new Saltist 30h :dude:

Sorry so late, just found this forum!
Anastasia is my old stomping grounds and there is plenty of fish to be taken from trout, reds, flounder, black sea bass, black drum, sheepshead and even juvenile cobia.

There are 2 main areas of fishing, Salt Run (Kinda river looking thing on your left as you enter the park, and the Surf itself.

My favorite place used to be the Jetties at the North end of the park. Course you could drive on the beach then and the 4 mile or so trip up there was no problem. Now I access it by boat since the PARK decided that driving was too dangerous in their typical all or nothing mentalities.

At the south end of the park right by the beach ramp there is a rock wall (north of the Pier) that can be real good for offshore flounder if you know what your doing, I ususally get fingermullet out of Salt Run with a cast net then use them as live bait near the rocks.
I get the impression that the flounder lay right off the rocks attacking the little fish who think they are safe hiding in the rocks.

Redfish are there also. I often smile at the people rushing to get to the end of the pier, while the majority of the fish are caught in 4' or less of water!
