Huguenot Memorial Park?

Post by JagJake »

Anyone enjoy surf fishing out at Huguenot Memorial Park? I take my 5 year old daughter out to the St. Johns facing side (across from the restrooms) and we fish from there. Not much luck but she enjoys it.

I have taken my 8 year old daughter out there with very little luck. Couple whiting and a bullred. We often go to the pier or we surf fish in Atlantic Beach. She catches alot when we surf fish.

I was at Jax beach in front of the life guard station yesterday 11/15 right before the front moved in. I couldn't believe how shallow the water was for at least 300 yards out past the first sand bar. I was using the top half of dead mullet on a #3 circle hook with a 2 ounce pyramid sinker. Didn't even get a bite.

the water has been extremly shallow since the hurricane came up the coast this past summer. the depth at the end of the pier before the hurricand was 39 feet at high tide. now its only 23 feet. fishing has been pretty weak all year in this area. most king macks stayed in deep water. only 3 were caught off the pier this year, and the spanish mack and usual mullet run was very light along the beaches. i went to the pier 12/19 and 20 and had luck with the sheepshead bite, but they turned off 12/21 with the coldfront.
