Lake Michigan King Salmon

Post by poontangler »

Newbie here, first time post.

I know this is a boatless forum but didn't want to get "purged" so...

Just got back from four days in Michigan. Went salmon fishing with a friend and caught some King/Chinook salmon, largest one is 18 lbs. Trolled black/red and chartreuse/yellow spoons on a downrigger about 50 down 3 miles off Grand Haven for these. Also hooked up with a steelhead from shore. My buddy who lives there thinks it was about 10-12 lbs.

Tight Lines!

Will try to post pics tonight. Will read the how-to's first.

Temp was in the low 70's, dunno about the water. Wish we had weather like that here sometimes.

Rob, you've never tried Steelhead fishing in January. It's so cold your rod guides ice up every cast. dress in like 5 layers with UnderArmor, fishing parka, neoprene waders, 3 hats, ice fishing bib, etc...

 As weird as that sounds, it's a great idea!

P.S., who travels north during the winter?
