Black Drum
Well I might as well start a thread for Black Drum. I caught this Blackie from the jetty down at Blind Pass between Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
This fish was also caught near sunset on a live shrimp with a typical slip sinker bottom rig with about 18 inches of flouro leader and a 1/0 Owner circle hook. My usual bottom, fish finder rig. The fish measured out at 27-inches. I've caught bigger Black Drum before, but this is the most recent.
For anybody interested: Blind Pass has no water flow like back in the old days, but the jetty there, still produces excellent fishing. I've heard rumors of a dredging project to restore water flow, but nothing definite. The fishing is still very good, but back in the day the Snook used to stack up under that bridge like cord wood. LOL

Cookingman--I've never eaten one that big before. I've heard they get tuff and are more susceptable to getting worms at the bigger sizes. I've eaten them in the smaller sizes from just over keeper size at 14-inches to about 20-inches and they are good eating. There's really not much difference at the smaller size than Redfish in my opinion.

Dec 1st 2013 Gulf state Park Pier Gulf Shores, AL
26# black drum on 6# Invisabraid (1# test mono diameter) on a Shimano TX 1000 spinning reel and a 9 foot Bass Pro Carbonlite rod.
I was fishing for "whiting" with a 1/2 piece of fresh dead shrimp on a #4 Kahle hook rigged Carolina style on a 15" 10# mono leader behind a 1oz coin sinker on a small Eagle Claw sinker slide.
The fish was hooked near the beach in about 5 feet deep water and fought for at least 15 minutes.
Then it was netted, photographed, weighed and released by slowly lowering it baack down in the same net.
