Since this is in my avatar, I figure I'd better post it. This is a huge Sheepshead, I caught from the jetty at Redfish Pass on Captiva.

Image

This Sheepie was just shy of 21 inches and took a pass crab on an Owner 2/0 circle hook that was meant for a big Black Drum. I've caught Sheepies as long before, but this one was thick in width and depth. It is definitely the heaviest, I've ever caught. :toast:

Cookinman--Thanks. I forgot to mention the pass crab that Sheepie ate, was three inches wide. That Sheepie ate em whole and damn near swallowed the hook. LOL

Those 7- striped sheepshead are 8) SnookMook
Nice one too :D

Here's a recent one (6 stripes) I caught from the Dauphin Island Pier (Alabama) back in Jan 07. My best, so far this year...
6# 11 oz (23" TL) sheepshead caught on a live shrimp fished on bottom with a Carolina style rig,
1/2 ounce egg weight 2 feet of 8# clear mono with a #6 bronze Eagle Claw All Purpose singlehook.
Used my 7 foot custom wrap Seeker LB 704 and a (20 yr old) Shakespear 040 Spinning reel with 8# mono.

Pier#r--Thanks buddy. Man, that is a hell of a nice Sheepie there as well. Great work. I never really thought about counting the stripes, but now that you pointed it out, I'm gonna start calling the big ones six and seven stripers. LOL

Really nice looking sheepies, i am into "Snooks" so until i get bored with them  . I won't be catching any sheepheads, but have seen some super large ones caught in my areas.
I have to say that a whole new ball game, when you go after them

Nice load of sheepies there.

I'm heading back down to Captiva for vacation at the end of the week. I'm hoping to load up on them like I always do down there.
