since I caught a king on a pier.
But this was the first one I landed on a newly wrapped (at the time) 7 foot Seeker blank and my old Penn 706.
Caught it freelining a 6" live scaled sardine from the Gulf State Park Pier in Gulf Shores Alabama 8)

I sure miss that ole pier

Nice KING...
Nice set up with the foul proof guides.
Is the reel spooled with dacron? or is it clear mono?
That SPINFiSHER 706 is worth a small fortune. Ive seen them sell
in like new condition for over $$350 2 - 3 weeks ago there was
a bidding war for one on ebay over $$ 400 something dollars.

The bottom two guides are stainless (60mm & 50 mm) the rest are 3-footed Fuji hardloy (40 mm - 10mm).

That reel holds well over 300 yards of 15# clear Ande mono.
PLENTY for a king that size. Just let 'em run like a scalded dawg, and when he stops (finally) you can put a fork in 'em, cuz he's done

The pic doesn't show the chips and wear on the green paint and the medallion missing
It's a magic setup though.

I see now you were talking about the one a couple pics above, that went right over my head for minute. Yea mine has a couple pds on yours. That pic of mine doesnt do it justice cause the fish is bent with the tail still on the ground. When I landed it, I had to pull it out from under the pier at one point in the fight and it struggled so hard it died. We had no gaff only a net and it was dead so we couldnt get it into the net and I had to beach the thing all the way down from the end of the pier.
