Well it would be pretty hard to fly fish on the pier for them with all the tourists and Blue Runner fisherman around

Chank,
What's so funny? Clearly you've never fished down this way when the runners come through thick. Its funny to watch huge coolers wheeled off FULL of Blue Runners and only Blue Runners, only to have the same person return with an empty cooler to fill it again.

Flyfishing is also prohibited at a lot of piers...what a shame.

Are those bullet sized albies common from shore/jetties? (sorry, I'm from the north where we call that species 'albie' and we have another species of small tuna we call 'bonito :eye: )

Mad old pics (I think I was like 10), but I have never posted these. All fish were on fly. Some on 8wt, some on 10.

Definitely great on the fly - here's a sampling of one I got off the rocks up here in MA...they tend not to run as large up this way:

Sort of a combination of the two. You know when they're running the jetties as they crash bait in a line right up the jetty. When you see them start doing that, just make sure your fly is in the water at all times and you will cross paths with them. Also, when you seem them in general, even if they're not immediately in front of you, most of the time there will be more that you don't see - many times right in front of you.

So I guess the 'final answer' is that I do see them but more often than not, I'm not actually casting to a specific school (unless they happen to bust right in front of me).

The season for this is coming up in about a month - they're arrive either the end of Aug or the beginning of Sept and stay until mid to late Oct...basically when the water is at its absolute peak. That's why I was glad to score one of Juno Pier last week (on a spinning rod) while on vacation down there, because it'll make the wait for this area a little more 'tolerable'

About what time in the summer or fall do the bonies get thick off Juno Pier? I know they are catching a few now.

Nice bonito off the Skyway. Was that recent ?
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.
