I'd been dragging all week trying to fight off some kinda sinusitis and today was no different
Got away from the house at the crack of 8am.
The two nearest bait shops were already out of live shrimp and I had to drive 15 miles out of my way to find some, but it was worth it
Not much had happened at the Dauphin Island Pier when I got there about 9:30.
The tide was still falling slowly and the water was slightly dingy, visibility only about 3 feet.
There was a mud line out on the sandbar near the breakers (1'-2') that had the bottom stirred up
It was slow fishing...
A pretty winter day to be fishing though. The north breeze made it feel a little cool, but I was bundled up tight to stay warm.
I picked up a fish here and a fish there as the day wore on, but StClair (a regular) was putting on a flounder catching clinic near the pierhouse.
He and his grandson caught at least 15 (all keepers) up to 3# using bull minnows
A few others did catch a dozen or so small white trout (sand seatrout)each (up to 12") with maybe 50 caught total.
Also there were two nice slot redfish caught (25") but only about 5 sheepshead caught on bait (more were snagged though
Anyway, I ended up with a couple of small white trout, two decent sheepshead (3.75# and 5.6#) and 3 flounder 15"-18" (caught on shrimp).
Not a bad mess though for a day that was hard to get out of bed
Thank You Lord, for helping me make it

Yeah, they are just starting to move back inshore from wintering out in the Gulf.bassZooKa wrote:wow 15 keeper flounder that's a lot what is the size minimum where u r from?
In AL flounder minimum is 12" TL, with no creel.
Here's a link to the AL rec regs. Bag limits are less stringent than FL for most fish

Great report as always
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

usually chris would catch something like that
"There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot."
