Within the next 2 months I'll only be able to go during the weekend.... I'm in the middle of my externship and my hours won't let me go during the week  I'll probably shoot for a weekend this month and probably a couple weekends next month. Thats the idea anyway. Th reports are coming back hot and I'm dying to get down there before it turns into an oven outside during the day sjsowiritjskskc@?29$8$+3+29291-#))-jihftqjj+919@-)(sjsoqposjdhd. Yup.

Down here know big mangos are on fire. Loads of tarpon and visas around but no permit to be seen. Guess they are all offshore making little permit right now.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Despite the bad weather I headed down to the bridge. I spent the night out there to fish the evening for a few hoursthen wake up in the morning to fish for permit before I head home.

before I ended up sleeping I end up getting 2 fat manrgroves at 16" and 18" and lost what seemeed to be a big mutton. No bait at night or morning.

Wake up and set out the crabs which I only had 4 so two per rod. it took about an hour for the first hit to come which crush the crab and drop it before I even got to the rod. Next hit I got to the rod in time engaged the reel came tight and out came the hook so now im pissed.

I finally put out the last crab and it wasn't long before it got hit. I got to the rod in time and finally had a solid hookset. It was a long fight with an estimated 30lber which took me through the pilings twice even in open water towards the end of the fight still had plenty of fight was a beast to get his head out of the water Plus fighting the current.I had a jogger passing by drop the net and up the permit came. got my terminal tackle back and I drop him and left him in the current to revive him for a while. Moments later he swam off strong, I packed up and headed home early.

Thanks man. On the way down there was spots of rain in the upper keys.

On the bridge there was no rain but lots of thunder and lightning all through the night but I still stayed. I thought I was going to get poured on while sleeping but I was lucky.

This should be the pre-spawn feed rush... Notice how absolutely FAT they are. Now, around late july to august, I promise they will all look deflated and be VORACIOUS! When they head off to spawn they tend to not feed the entire time there. Mileage varies of course, I HAVE caught them while spawning, but they tend to get serious lock-jaw which is why some of the old timer commercial fishermen take a few weeks off round that time lol!

The beauty is that when they come back they basically eat anything and everything and start the cycle all over again. I love nature!

great fish btw!

Got out on a couple of good nights last week while the tide was the way I like it. Used pinfish for bait. First night is signature pic. Here is combined nights catch. Bottom row 3rd from left had to pay for cutting my index finger. Got a little bit of bridge rash. Snapper are 15-21"s
Took the 24" yellow jack out for an evening of cook your catch.

Where are all the reports guys? I will be in the Keys from 22nd for ten days and would like to know how the fishing is so I can get even more excited.

Also, does anyone know if it is worth targeting anything specific at the Cheeca Lodge pier. Last time I was there it was tough getting any live bait past the baby barracuda and apart from them mainly mangroves under the pier, not a lot else really.

Thanks in advance

Ray
