surf fishing april 4 - 8

I am planning on taking my son surf fishing and camping april 4-8. we have been to anclote key last year and it was packed. We are looking at Cape Hatteras, but the weather is supposed to be wet and cold.
Does anyone have a suggestion of where else to try.
