I've never used wire line on a reel. I want to line a 4/0 senator with wire line to troll deep. I should use mono on top of this to my leader. My question is; how much mono and a concern of the connection from wire to mono interferring with my retrieve; I.e. getting caught in the guides. Please recommend advise for process. thanks, Jon

When you fish wire it's usually straight to a plainer or to a big cigar weight then to a mono leader

If it's not the right model the wire is going to corrode parts of that reel just to let you know....as for the connection getting caught in guides that depends on your knot Albright might be good also a rod with at least 1-2 roller guides.
Why the need for mono, I didn't understand, is that your leader or are u putting topshot of mono to another leader because like gk says it's usually wire directly to something to get it in the zone then your leader. You know you can deep troll without wire

Wire is a bad idea. Starting with the corrosion problems. And ending with spring wire backlash! The wire can and will cause your reel to backspin at rest in free spool, depending on the wire size and its spring memory. Once coiled around your reel spool it's gonna want to unwind itself.
With all the lines avalible why wire? I understand the need for a leader but not the whole spool.
