New guy intro

Hey everyone. New to the forum and just wanted to say whats up. Im up in Broward county as a transplant from the Philadelphia area. I work at a local fishing store but Im still learning the local "ropes" in the freshwater scene. Anyway, nice forum and looking forward to meeting some of you.

Welcome...What do you wish to know about freshwater? ....and a little tip if you work in a fishing store watch what tackle the freshwater guys buy , talk to them see where when they are fishing. It's pretty simple down here to just try any body of water cast a worm or lure you should hit fish most of the time.

Thanks for the welcome. I can generally get into LMB and some peas, but most are on the smallish side. I've been throwing all the usual suspects; jerk baits, plastics, cranks etc. Still experimenting tho with colors and sizes and which are preferred in different situations. I prefer more natural tones usually since that was generally the ticket up north in the sweetwater but Im venturing into louder colors with some success. I just dont have a ton of spots yet (no, Im not asking LOL).

Purple is my go to color for worms, zoom has two sizes I like the trick worm size it bigger and no tail it helps weed out the smaller ones and casts further too. Lures I like with at least some white on it or I have a lot of success matching to the color of the fish in the water. Peacocks love lures that are the same color as themselves and chiclids but when bedding will hit anything (my buddy used a chartreuse saltwater jig to catch one). Color shouldn't really have an effect on the situation though rather the type of artificial will, when they are down low and your crank or slash bait aren't reaching there is a sinking lure or the worm with splitshot. Work the lures anyway you think, run and stop, or jerk it a little but peacocks love speed.I usually run my lures first and if they don't work whip out the worm. Peacocks will eat worms btw. Don't worry dude there's no such thing as spots for freshwater like I said before just start pulling over and trying places, most people won't have a problem letting you in on info anyways because the real fisherman catch and release (we won't talk about those who eat freshwater fish down here ). Hell a lot of spots are publically marked too by FWC and the county because most of the canals, levees, and belong to them. Search my posts for pictures or check me out on Instagram (jamesmcm305) you will see in most what baits I'm using, I hate to support Walmart but every damn lure I pull off their shelves works.

Thanks for the great info. Very generous of you. Yeah, Ive pulled a few peas off beds with bright pompano jigs but that seems like cheating somehow, lol. Whats the local etiquette on that btw? Does anyone frown on that?

Im gonna pick up a few perch colored jerkbaits today and give em a shot. Weighted, plastic flukes and big ez type swimbaits should do the trick for deep holding fish too, right?

Local etiquette doesn't exist. There's people that go out and load a 5gal bucket with peacocks for dinner because for some reason they want to start glowing in the dark. I've had them pull over walk right up next to me and cast on the same fish I was. So fishing the bedding peacocks isn't a big deal if your tossing back, I actually prefer doing it beacause it scares them off for the day or longer and those googans can't kill em.
I prefer a biger worm or senko over the swim baits, they work but not really for me.
