Bill Baggs

Post by cusaba »

Hi everyone, I'm new in the forum and newbie at fishing as well.
I went to Bill Baggs this weekend and got two mutton and a pompano, spend the whole day there and that was all I got... I should probably feel grateful, don't know... I have heard many people go and leave empty handed... I don't really know if that's a good place for fishing, but have to say it's great if u go with the wife since she can go to the beach in the other side.... :D nice common ground where we both can have some fun...
Also wanted to say there is a very nice app for those like me (newbie) that helps a lot with fish types and regulations it's called fish rules and costs .99 don't know if it's available for android...

Thank you and good day to all!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Bill Baggs is one of those fishing places were you have to be there at the right tides if not your chances are slim to none because of the strong current that occurs.I like to fish the low tide incoming and if I have enough energy i will wait for the high slack tide to outgoing.Good luck i will be heading down there tomorrow.

I almost had to stretch them... LOL 16 and fractions both... not big at all, but certainly a nice meal!!!!
I got one early, around nine or ten... the other was after three. Both with the same setup, very light weight and fluoro...

Keep in touch and could check Friday....
This fishing thing is addictive.... :D I started couple of months ago with a Walmart combo....
two months after I have a spot in my home office for "rods" and all I want to do is :reeling:

Went to Bill Baggs in the morning, slow current high tide. "fresh" dead sardines as bait.
One 17" jack at around 8:30AM :happyfisherman: ... a baby cubera right from under the "balcony" while reeling back :reeling:  this happened right after the jack.... DEAD from 9 to 11, then I left....

Went to Deering Estate in the afternoon.... very low tide. I got NOTHING, My in law got a small shark at roughly 20' from the shore.... sent him back... not a shark fan... :scold:

All honesty I did not like the place, no bites, nothing... :pale: I was probably doing something wrong.... One thing I hate from there was the HUGE amount of sea weed... very annoying.... every time I cast I had to spend a couple of minutes cleaning sinker, hook, bait and line...

Can you point me in the right direction on what to do... as far as setup, bait and the like... I would love to go again and give it a second try....
Where exactly did you go? the gate next to the bridge or to the small pier next to the estate?

I was at bill baggs on the 4th also, i was on the first pier closes to the lighthouse, we caught 1 nice jack and my friend caught an 18'' mutton on a dead crab then a bermuda chub and a pork fish, i walked around for a while looking for any cudas or jacks but nothin, in the morning the snooks, tarpons and jacks were hitting a nice size pod right off the wall close to the light house but they were to far to cast to, But there was alot of birds hitting the water.

were you? Pier One? LOL That's funny I think I know who you were, I think one of you came to me to ask if I was going to take that pier.... I found that funny and very nice because most people would just go and get the spot without even thinking... Thank you guys...
I went to pier four, don't really know why I went there, maybe because that's where I got the two mutton and the jack last week.... anyways, I have realized that some people go close to the light house, you probably saw a tall old black guy around there, I have seen him frequently and also talked to him few times. He says there are some nice groupers in that area... I have seen him get beautiful size jacks too...
I think there are fish down there.... it's probably I don't know what I'm doing....

Yea that place dose have a ton of seaweed but as far as bait goes I use live shrimp with split shot and fish the mangroves and spot fish the dock around the dock. It's a good place to take the kids so that's my I go to take my niece.
