Daytona Mar 1 ? Suggestions please

Post by BigSkyDave »

We're heading north to Daytona from Lake Placid for the Florida Antique Tackle Collectors show. Would like to catch some boatless fish on the way. Thought of hitting the coast at Sebastion and turining left.

Would appreciate any recommendations - surf, piers, or jetties.

Thanks

Dave

Ponce Inlet is a good spot on the right tides. The pier in Daytona if its open is very shallow but has some fish on it. The area bridges hold trout jacks and redfish but be aware of your surrondings.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Are the right tides the outgoing tides?

Any suggestions on bait/lures/tackle/species?

Thanks,

Dave

2 hours before and after either high tide works. Tough to beat live shrimp worked with the tide on a jighead just heavy enough to reach but not hold bottom. At Ponce I have caught snook redfish snapper jacks bluefish and ladyfish on shrimp. Live pinfish or mullet work as well. Live shrimp on a popping cork or DOA shrimp work well in the river for same species. Daytona pier if they reopened it can yield drum reds and black whiting pompano and sheepshead. Fresh cut shrmp, clams, or sand fleas work for all of the above and fish the pilings there.
