Fishing near Homestead

Post by bvetter76 »

I'm new to the area and I was wondering if anybody had some info on the fishing around here. I have done a lot of surf fishing in the pan handle so I have an idea on how to fish the area just don't really know where to. Being in the Air Force I usually have to start all over with making new fishin buds so any help would be appreciated.

Fresh water fishing in most any canal you see, use Google earth, and you can catch an assortment LM Bass, Peacock Bass, Ciclids, Bream, Gar... be aware of where you park so as not to get towed.

Salt water, not much surf fishing around H-stead. You can toss a line at HomeStead Bayfront Park & Marina, but shoreline is limited. You can catch grunts, mangrove snapper, cuda, maybe a Snook or Trout if you are really lucky. Get yourself a canoe or kayak and it opens about 15 mile of beautiful mangrove shoreline.
There is BlackPoint Marina, with a long jetty that a short part of it can be fished after a long walk to the open areas.
A bit North is Matheson Hammock, pass the marina to the end loop in the road, you can wade here for quite a ways to the South in shallow waters Snappers, Trout, Cuda.. and some people have even caught Bonefish here.

You also have Flamingo, commonly referred to as Mingo, Everglades National Park where at night you can fish the marina but not at day, you can alos fish the limited shoreline at the campground. Limited shoreline fishing but again a canoe or kayak will open lots of possibilities. Beware of the bug's, skeeters are relentless here.

Head South to the Keyes bridges for some good fishing.
SW, Live to Fish, Have Tackle will travel ... >,)))~> ~~~~

Thanks for the info looks like I'm just goin to have to talk the wife into letting me get a boat . I will definitely head down to the keys to hit up the bridges. Any in particular that are better and what types of fish should I target down on the bridges?
