40# Bull mahi, free gaffing stud triple tail (miami)

Crushed to phins today, we could have caught a limit if we wanted to be greedy, but who wants to spend 2 hrs at the fillet table? Ain't nobody got time fo dat!!! Everyone and their mother was on the same line, and everyone was catching. At times it was tough to coax fish to eat chunks. I was concerned about conserving our live baits, fearing we'd find a pack of picky 20#ers. Sure enough, with 3 baits left we found a doz fish all over 20. Managed to hook the biggest, a 40# fish on our very last runner, on a Penn SSV 5500 bait rod with 12# test. The fish sounded and rest of the pack followed him down never to be seen again. After a 30 min fight, I sunk some steel in his back and high fives all around. Rumor has it I free gaffed a stud triple tail too. Hey, I was just trying to conserve bait. Tight lines
