foot or yards? 400 foot on a reel is nothing IMO that translates to roughly 133 yards.

I got a good 300 on mines - yards that is.

Anyway if we fish in 300' and the jig goes straight down "slow current" you should be fine with the spare 100' on your spool. You got strong current and fish in the 300' area then 400' line is kinda on the low side.
Again depends on current - depth fished - the fish how strong and your gear

Getting spooled depends on the fish the reel and how you fight the fish or dare to fight the fish.

I usually go for broke and put some drag on em. The rod holds or breaks. The lien hold or breaks - does not matter. Is all for the fun of it and always full force

Got 50 lb braid and will do 80 to 100 leader just in case one of the biggens decides to take my jig.
Mt rod breaks - I will just build another one - but I doubt it breaking.

I build to good for that to just happen. Yep pat on my shoulder and I dont care

I have gotten many on 40lb test, but far from the wreck. I have 80 lb braid on one of my reels and 50lb on the other. At the humps I pulled a 35 lb AJ on 30 lb test line and a 5000 sustain, took longer but I got him out and there was no wreck in there.
