Tamiami Trail micro snook and tarpon

Post by aha14750 »

I been wanting to bust out my fly rod and try my hand at some juvenile snook and tarpon Tamiami trail is said to hold. I know close to Miami they are few and far between and the canal hold mostly LMB and pea's. I was wondering if anyone knows how far down the trail I'd have to go to get some steady action. I'd be leaving from Miami and driving west. Also any advice on flies and gear to bring would be great.

Thanks in advanced!

I don't stop until hitting Ochopee, then every culvert is a likely target all the way to Marco

Pure wisdom.... Sometimes theyre there, sometimes theyre not... The bugs ARE your friends, the buggier it is the better the bite for me. The rains lead the way and make everything come alive.

try the weir at Port of the Islands. There are snook and tarpon and plenty of space to cast a fly. It is about 15 minutes west of highway 29 on tamiami trail.

Thank you for the advice everyone,

I was going to take my 8wt and throw some small gurglers and EP type bait fish patterns. Hopefully it works out.
