Flukes, wacky-rigged worms are the 2 baits I try first.

Yes of course, bass will eat anything. Those 2 lures I listed are what I use to scope out a new body of water, but spinnerbaits and crankbaits are proven catchers.

Rubber worm. Black or Chartreuse. That's up north. Dont know about down here. During insect spawn's, top water's can be deadly.

My go to bait for large mouth bass is a 71/2" Red Shad plastic worm on a 1/0 or 2/0 worm hook with a 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, or 1/4 Oz bullet weight depending on how deep the water is. Of course making it weedless by burrying the hook if needed. In low light or murky water I use the oil can color. (yellow with brown in it that looks like oil)

My go to bait for a Peacock Bass is a top water popper, if I don't see them on their bed. If they are on their bed anything with a hook will work. Bright colors work better. Just keep bringing it into the bed until they strike hard. At first they will only move it out of the bed so it may take a while before they strike at it. I have caught them on a oil can color piece of worm just big enough to put a worm hook on.

I have only caught one small mouth and it was in Lake Errie while trolling for Walleye

Manny; Smallies are a friggin riot Dude! They are one of a few fresh water fish that's as agressive as salt water fish. I've had little one's hit a swim bait that 2/3's their size. The Canadian side of Lake Erie hold's some monster's.

I agree, the one I caught fought harder than the walleye's that I caught 1 1/2 times it's size.
I wanted to add that except for the walleye's and the small mouth caught in Lake Erie, all the bass were returned to the water alive and they all swam away.

No Smallies in FL... Ive gotten my fair share up in the VA mountains... Potmac and Shenendoah rivers.... Best lure for them was 4" Lizard with back legs removed to resemble a sculpin.

Largies... I can write a novel on my go to lures... But if I had to choose 3

1. Storm Swim Shad, 3" Shad Color in lakes with little or no veg
2. Senko Style baits... Natural Colors rigged on a 3/0 EWG hook...
3. Watermelon Seed Fluke, same hook.. lakes with depth and cover... Rigged on a Flutter Style hook.

Again, I can go on and on and on and on.... Different lakes, canals, ponds, under diff conditions... What caught 30+ bass yesterday at Lake A, may not catch a single fish the next day in Lake B.
My posts are just my opinion... Gathered from my research and my experiences in this passion we all share.. Dont hate if my opinion differs from yours... We all have opinions just like butt holes

I've grown up through out the South and Midwest fishing freshwater most of my life. Here in pompano canals and lakes the lure bite is day to day. However, lately a watermelon color zoom frog weedless rigged is hands down unbeatable, after a rain or evening. Have been catching some BIIIIG SNAKEHEADS on the same rubber frog to in pompano canal off powerline/ palm aire. Zoom fluke to is good at times. A rapala shallow shadrap in a natural color is productive is there's not thick weeds. As for smallmouth, I've caught them in Arkansas's greers ferry lake, in heber springs. Has the world record walleye at 25lbs. on the lake. On the little red river off the dam, has produced 40 pd. Brown trout an 30 pd plus rainbows. I use a small gold spoon for smallies, but my favorite bait is anything that looks like a crayfish..(aka crawdads). once again, tried and true for those smallmouths aka bronze bruisers. A brown buck tail jig with a rubber crayfish trailer is lethal, or a jig and pig. Also productive again is catfish immataing lures , Jigging spoonsand a rig called " a shaky head jig for deep and cold weather smallies can be solid when you find schooled up fish. Hope this helps a little.

It depends on the water color, water temp, time of day, time of year. This time of year big black worms texas rigged worked like a little snake in the am, crank baits, spinners, deep swim bait in the middle of the day. Worms again late after noon. Dark colors for dirty water, natural colors for clear water.

Best lure for peas r small medium diving crank baits like a shad rap. Best time is the middle of the day. Best live bait is jewel chilids caught from the same canal. It is litteraly candy for peas.

Smallmouths were once stocked in the Suwannee River but did not survive. The Suwannee, Shoal, and Spotted are similar to smallies in that they are more riverine and morphologically similar.

A large plastic worm works well around the state in areas with cover. For open water largemouths I like deep diving plugs like shadraps.

For smallmouths I like tubes hopped along the bottom in rocky areas (crayfish imitation). In open water, deep diving plugs, shadraps once again. The largest smallmouth I have seen caught (~4-5 lbs.) was on a large (6") jointed plug trolling deep open water for pike.

For smallmouth I would suggest a Husky Jerk, or Tube Jigs in a natural color-they are unbeatable and can be fished to imitate anything. Largemouths-I would try a wacky rigged worm, Fluke, or tiny torpedo.

storm lures are always coming out with new and exciting lures that I use for bass all the time, I absolutely love the storm brand swim baits and they always give me great results, it is definitely my go to lure for largemouth and I highly recommend it. the soft shads and swim shads are my favorite models and give me the most success.

your number one go too bait should be the one you have the most confidence in in the words of bill dance fish in comfort use what you know best. dont be afraid to change things up but when things get rough i go too the lure i have the most confidence in my go too lure depends on the time of year but a buzzbait is one zara spook is another and so is a pop-r. mid level i go too a slow rollin fluke suspeding crankbait and a spinerbait. on the bottem i slow bounce plastic worms and flukes one of my fav baits but it only produces big bass on the right body of water but big fish love jig an pig now with the more crawfish imitations ive come too like the brush hog but it has limits. all of these lures can be used for smallmouth if your in those waters u just downsize everything.

my favorite way too fish is with a 20in black snake working the shollows of holiday park
but the condtions arent allways good for this.

All bass can be caught on topwater just before/after dusk/dawn. Poppers, walk-the-dog lures, buzzbaits, and so forth all have a good chance.

In lakes the bass will usually go deeper as the sun comes up. The exception to this is shady areas or structures. Still the bite is typically sub-surface. Jerkbaits are king in the spring. Texas rigged worms can work any time of the day or night. Flukes are my favorite spring/summer soft baits. If largemouth and smallmouth are in the same body of water you'll catch a mix of both with the same lures.

River smallies are a whole different ballgame. Depending on the weather you can catch them all day on just about anything. A small Rapala X-rap in any silver color is deadly. Zoom flukes in white or silver flake are great too. You can even work a twin tail grub for good results. I caught a citation in a small river in VA on the big lucky craft g-splash. Really in the river the little smallies will eat anything that moves.

They catch smallmouth down there? There's plenty here in my home state (MA)...but regardless, if spinfishing and in need of catching fish, I like to do the wacky worm/Senko thing with a mellon/white Senko...draws fish out of nowhere. However, if I'm in the mood for theatrics, I'll go with any small/med spook or even rebel/rapala popper

For flyfishing, I only go in the evenings and stick with topwater (typical frog imitations) for large mouth and often, just a typical searching pattern (such as an olive wooly bugger) will get enough smallies to keep me busy.
