Browsed county fishing

Post by Jpizzle954 »

I'm up in the plantation/sunrise area. Was wondering if anybody knew of any decent canals/lakes in this area. I've been traveling up to Coral Springs to a buddies spot to catch decent LMB and snakeheads. But can't seem to find any in my area. You don't have to give me your honey holes. But maybe advice as where to start looking. Any help would be very appreciative. Im especially trying to find peacocks. Thanks in advance

I start by walking the N. Fork of the New River (parallel to 84), starting from the dam at Davie road all the way to US 27.... there are a couple offshoot canals heading N. (especially parallel to Hiatus) that should be investigated.

That should keep you busy for a while.. in between trips check Google Earth and see where you are and where other locations are that the tributary canals lead.

ahh yeah...you may if you park on the side of the road.......
There is a fine line between Love & Hate.Hate is pushing them off a ledge. Loving them means you don't taunt them after you've pushed them off.

There are plenty of places to aprk along the way, at the dam there is a small parking lot, out west by Flamingo you can get away parking on the N. side in the shopping center lot or the access area by the small bridge, West of 136th where the old Harley store there are access areas to park and get to the canal as well as many small canals and lakes in there, at Markham you can easily park.

I also park inside Markham, turn left to small p-lot, head through the woods that are gone now, cross over at the water structure there and you can walk miles of dyke and fish both sides. If you bring your brass ones I've seen guys wade out inot the bombing range to fish the holes during drier times.

Hiatus, N. of the New River you can park right by the canal and walk miles.

You just have to put on your walking and bush whacking clothes.

Lol I don't think I'm going to bring out the brass ones out just yet. Maybe if I find a few good spots first lol. And I need to invest in a tackle cooler before I go on these missions. But if any one is ever down to ride out. Let me know I'd be up for an excursion. Just found a nice spot tonight got a massive bass but snapped the line while I was trying to pull him out of the water :(

For peacock bass you need only 1 rod & reel, and a couple lures.
WTF do you need a tackle cooler for, you plan to keep them ?

My son and I call it the walk of shame fishing, take 1 rod, reel, and lure.. catch as many as you can on that lure.. loose it you take the walk of shame home.

Please C&R peacocks, they are an amazing sportfish and I release all of mine, I absolutelty hate seeing damn bucket anglers and cane polers keeping every damn peacock and other fish caught, makes me want to push them into the canal
There's no such thing as too much bait!!

I agree with that and even take it a step further.. its hard cause they are easy picking but I stay away and walk on by nesting fish.
Yes you hear the story that they go back to the nest, but if you watch in less than 30 seconds ciclids and bream have attacked the nest, sure the fish you caught maybe goes back and tries but the damage is done.. come back a day or 2 later and usually the nest has been comprimised and the nesting pair have moved on.

There is no challenge or pride in catching nesting peacock bass, or catching them with live bait.

All the lakes west of University hold big bass hit and run 1 rod with a small tackle bag to carry a little tackle. I prefer early morning and afternoon 6 inch watermellon senkos. Frogs and poppers are also deadly. As long as your moving around the lakes I never get hassled.

Goes without saying using common sense when you are technically on someone else property. Be a responsible fisherman if someone complains I move on simple as that. always park in a guest space keep moving those tactics will keep the hassling to a minimum.
