Nice fish, what was your bait. Looks like you could use a landing net.

Nice carp I agree get a net.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

When I fish for them I use 6 ft of 40-60 lb mono leader, helps to land them once they are close by handlining them in

I don't know how you fish em, but the ones we catch are actually veryyyyyy spooky and we got to hide behind trees to get them lol. We actually use 8 pound line with 12 pound fluorocarbon and a size 10 hook. Then we just barely put the hook on the bread and let it float out on the current, if it sinks they will not eat it. The key is to keep the bread floating and oh yeah hide behind stuff so they don't see you lol.fishnfool73 wrote:When I fish for them I use 6 ft of 40-60 lb mono leader, helps to land them once they are close by handlining them in

Haven't done this in a while (got bored with it), but straight 10lb test with a very small barbless hook was enough to land even the huge ones. Fishing bread on the surface allowed all lip hook-ups and then, to land, just slid them up on the sandy shore and the hook slipped right out. Releases were quick and safe for the fish. But eventually I got tired of reeling in what fought like a sack of potatoes, lol.

Fun stuff..... Definately filled in for the unproductive bass days.... We used to go, get our "one for the day" and then leave them alone, as 90% of them seem to have lots of blood coming from the gills. Agree, the key is to keep it floating (bread), however, when they are tailing, you can get them to hit the bread on bottom.... Just crazy as for the size of the fish and lack of the fight..... These were fish all 20lb and above for the most part, and the fights were a solid 1 to 2 runs and then lots of blood and lots of dead weight... We used to always so if that were any other fish of that size, it would be awesome! Regardless, cool video and good stuff.
