Snakehead fishing

Lately ive been in the mood to only target freshwater fish. After giving up on trying to hunt down tarpon and snook around here ive gained a interest in fishing for snakehead but have only managed to accidentally catch 1 while bass fishing. None of the canals around coral springs/tamarac seem to have solid snakehead. Anyone care to share some tips or even locations on where I could hook up to some of these "things" lol. Any info is much appreciated.

Ive tried c-14 by the sawgrass and it didnt produce much

not sure where you're located, i'm in west coral springs... a good spot is behind the bk on coral springs and sample. basically any canal with a lot of cover along the edges. i've had most luck on a frog or any topwater lure. don't buy a fancy one as the snakehead will tear it up after two/three hookups. work the lure along the sides of the canal staying as parallel to the shoreline as possible. the 'louder' the lure the better. i personally found that keeping the frog moving with minimal pauses worked best.

finally, wait at least to a count of 3-5 before setting frog/hook. its very rare that they'll hit twice. hope this helps and good luck.

p.s. i'm sure you already know, but if you do catch one, don't throw it back... invasive species...

They don't hurt the population of other native species, so why would he kill every one he catches? If he can't seem to catch/find any, than clearly they haven't haven't had an extreme effect on the area..

Good info about the areas and techniques, but don't kill snakeheads just because you've HEARD bad things about them.

A lot of my buddies kill every snakehead they catch because of how everyone says they are a threat to native species but I personally think they look awesome so I cant see myself killing one if I catch one.

If you go to the end of whiles walk passed that fence, under the sawgrass, and fish the canals along the sawgrass..it gets kinda sketchy just be careful lol

I've never fished but i've never heard anything about it either..lots of mudfish/snakeheads along the sawgrass though..get some live shiners lot's of fun some big bass out there too..watch out for gators they like to hang out under the sawgrass
