I fish many many miles of freshwater banks mainly in Broward county. Recently I was yelled at and threatened by an irate home-owner, in an area I have fished long before there was a housing development. The lady threatened to let her dog loose after me and call the police. Being the polite person I am, I ignored her and kept moving down the bank, and kept fishing, the dog and the police never came.
I was on the opposite side of a canal, where there are no houses, and actually its a public walk/bike path. This canal is easily 90' to 120' wide and part of SFWMD.
The housing development has put up a couple signs that say "No Tresspassing, No Fishing" with the name of the housing developments home-owners association. My thoughts are that they just purchased and installed the signs without actual leagl authority to do so.
How would I, you or anyone else, research this issue to see if I can be arrested for Tresspassing or Fishing in a specific area ?
What is the proper method to display a "No Tresspassing, No Fishing" or "Private Property" sign ?

This is what I would do,
Call the police department and ask them.
or
You need to find out what the Housing Property is as far as boundarys, if the sign was the city or town I believe it must follow with an Ordanance number.
But if it is there land they make the rules as does a private person .
But if it is city then those signs must be put up by the city and i have seen housing developments just stick signs up before on city property and wait until someone screams bloody murder and then they take them down and put them back up a few months later and so on.
Good luck

Offical signs have decals on the back with the governing bodys seal or name. Some look similar to our old auto inspection decals. Bf is right though just call the cops and avoid the bs. These HOA nazis are too much.

Take it from me move on if you see the signs, most cops won't just randomly stop to harass you but some of those condo commandos will call and then the cops have to do something to you. The HOA's call the station and complain to the chief or the mayor and turn fishing into the crime of the century. Sooner or later the cop is put in the position of your butt or his. Those things are enforceable to a degree and you can go to jail over it.....please just take my word on this I know. Drop me a PM and depending on where you are fishing I might be able to help out

There are many areas like that in Boca. I simply call and ask the HOA if I can have permission to fish there. Most responses were positive and I was told the main reason for the signs is that a lot of people leave their trash and they have to clean it or pay someone to clean up the mess. We should take notice of this. We had a thread a little while ago about good conduct in the places we fish. Sometimes we (those that don't clean up) are the reason these signs go up. So call first and you might be suprised how many of them appreciate the call and will allow you to fish there. Keep it clean!

KRASH just drop my name if you are fishing in my neck of the woods....that should get you in matching braclets with a quickness lol. The spillway over on 84 and Davie was onfire for snook a few days ago when the water is flowing that place is a goldmine.

I'll just tell the locals "fishinfool73" gave me permission to knock these signs down and said I can fish here any time I want.. yea sure

too.
I stay away form that spillway, it sometimes gets to be not so friendly, and its not easy to get fish up and over the wall.

Crash, sorry for the late post.
If you are in Broward county, you should be able to find boundary/property lines for parcels, like HOA and such at this site.
http://66.55.51.198/ Just make sure you have the "parcels" clicked on.
I'm sure other counties have a similar site.
