How much does my first AJ weigh?

Caught my first AJ today off Pompano on a vertical jig. I was using a Shimano Teramar inshore rod (7' heavy/fast action), Shimano Baitrunner (6000 series), 30lb braid/ 60lb leader and a 5oz Vortex jig. I think I was under-gunned but I still got the fish in the boat. I'm gonna be hurtin tomorrow. How much do you think it weighs? I really have no clue, my guess is 50-60lbs (I'm 5'9" 170lbs)? I was so tired when I landed it it felt more like 200 lbs. lol

Nice fish...one question: it does not look like today's weather, did you catch that today, as in on May 1st, with all the cloud cover and threatening thunder storms? Because this looks nice and plenty sunny, doesn't look like today. :toast:

You must have thought you may have had an opening day grouper on, only to see this monster AJ!!!! Wow, on a kayak that far out at sea with threatening weather on the forecast. :thumleft: Amazing fish. Did you keep it? Any worms? Bon Appetite if you're eatin' it!

Nice reef donkey, I would say every bit of 50 lbs. You are going to be feeling that one tomorrow. I would be scared to death I would dump out of my yak, jigging a big fish like that straight up and down with tight drag. I guess that's why I stick to the trout and snook so far in mine.

6000 series. I love it, caught poons, sailfish, sharks and now AJs on it.

Yup. :toast: Good call... Does that wreck usually hold AJs? I'm curious to know how you called it? Psychic perhaps?

I jigged that wreck last year around september-dec. It wasnt holding that many ajs. They started to stack up thick in february. I think april is when they spawn.

I tried all the public wrecks around pompano and that spot has been the only one really producing.
