Googans, gogs and sailfish (pompano beach 2/25/13)

Post by Poseidon10/31 »

Team Googan strikes again! 3rd trip offshore and a very memorable one. Launched off NE 16th St in Pompano Beach at sunrise. Longer paddle than I would have liked to get to the wrecks off the pier. Set up the first drift in around 100-150 ft (new FF broke so guessing depths based on Navionics). Caught a beast bluerunner, hispanic mackerel, and had a vertical jig get slammed so hard it smashed my rod down on my yak. Didn't get the fish but it sure did put some teeth marks in the jig!!! Saw some bird action out deeper, trolled a gog out there and watched a boat troll his spread right over top of some tuna that were jumping clear out of the water. He didn't get a bite. 2 min later my gog gets slammed. Sailfish on!!! it pulled my out over a mile NE to somewhere in the 400's, had me down to the backing on my Avet 5.8 MXL. Had him to the yak and was getting ready to try and pull him up when the leader frayed (50lb mono). Oh well, it swam off healthy and I did manage to get a few jumps on video. Started off the pier and ended up a couple hundred yards north of the inlet. No way we could get back to the wrecks, too tired, so we limped back to the beach. Awesome day and I'm hooked now.

There is a fine line between Love & Hate.Hate is pushing them off a ledge. Loving them means you don't taunt them after you've pushed them off.

Come on... Who wouldn't want a lap dance from a sailfish?!?! They're probably even less slimy than the strippers around here... Lol

Call me a bit of a wimp, but that really looks kinda scary. I think I want to try it though. Great Fish!

anticipation, sleepless nights, making of lists,
and the anticipating of pleasure.
