Sunday was ok, not great but not slow either by the latest standards. The weekend is usually tougher with all the boat traffic and fishing pressure. Even so, three of us managed to catch (not keep) our limit of trout 17-20" and threw back several smalls. Around 2p I had a fat 19" trout up to the yak when a much bigger (easily several pounds) trout try to take the lure out of it's mouth. We also caught some jacks and ladyfish. Spooked some reds on the flats as well.
The odd thing, and contrary to what you hear, the best bite was in the middle of the day, around 1-3p. Unlike most guys I throw topwater all day long and had more success in the afternoon. Other lures that produced were doa baitbusters, xraps, and plastic shrimp.
Monday was quite a bit different. Two of us made it out and had caught 10 trout 16-21" by mid morning. All fish were on skitterwalks and baitbusters. Ended up with close to 20, mostly over 16 in. in one area the ladyfish were fierce, caught 5 in about as many casts some of which put on a great show, skyrocketing to eat my skitterwalk
At midday I asked my friend if he wanted to try a new lure that I hadn't used yet and handed him a rapala subwalk. In four casts he caught 3 trout and a blue runner
Worked some sandy potholes before we left and caught one small redfish.
Synopsis: The water isn't too warm yet and the bite is good all day on mullet pattern baits.
