transducer mount....problems

Post by screamendrag »

well i just mounted my transducer.......first i used goop, this marine adhesive/sealant, and i really didnt like how it was holding and didnt think it would give me a strong enough bond, so i scratched that and started over.

i went to 7 minute epoxy, which i think may have been an even bigger mistake......i got the transducer glued down and i no theres no bubbles between the hull and the face of the puck, but upon further inspection there is a bunch of little tiny bubbles around the sides of it.......am i screwed???am i gunna be killed with a bunch of false readings? or is this only for boats when there is alot of vibration?....yet i no the transducer can be tricked by airbubbles in the water so im leanen towards the fact im gunna get crazy interfearance

im really freakin out bout this because its epoxy and the stuff is a b*tch to get off and i really fear i might damage my hull if i end up having to remove the transducer..

any thoughts are greatly appreciated

thanks,
Jeff

I have never done this but offering suggestion. Have you try silicone for marine? I'm pretty sure you can get this at any marine store or Dusky marine shop. Silicone is flexible and can be waterproof tight. I hope this works out. Good luck.

the transducer you have does it bring a base .my transducers do and they are screw to the hall you can put 5200 marine silicon to screws if you have the instructuction it will tell you the right position.i wouldn't trust with only epoxy or silicon the base should go screw to the hall if dont have instructions most them go in one position let me know good luck.

yea it comes with the hull mount, but its not ideal for a kayak because holes in the underside of your hull arent very safe especially a couple miles offshore.............its better to mount the transducer the "through hull" way on a yak, and since its such a thin hull theres really no point to do it any other way...

just pisses me off i still gotta cut the sh*t out and re glue cause i was bein a bone head during the install  ill get over it though

Bubbles are gonna def gonna screw ya. Try a pool noodle cut down and filled W silicone. Fill slowly.
Mash the transducer into that. No need to cut the hull for this.

you could buy the kit or just follow the principal.
