I forgot how good triggerfish is...

Post by PhishingPhanatic »

Man I had forgotten how good triggers are, I just ate one from the Tortugas, fried it with some panko tossed with lemon pepper, I devoured 2 decent size fillets. Firm white meat, as mild as can be, almost reminds me of lobster. I'm going to target them next time they start pecking my kingfish bait.

A box cutter works well to make the initial cuts if you have a bunch of them to clean.

I guess i will give them a try. Everytime i go out on my freinds boat they show up within minutes of putting the chum bag out. Last one I caught spit up an octopus tentacle.

not a good idea, the womans in bahamas used the skin of the triger fish to wash dishes .this is how i do it with a sharp knife i do a cut around the gills ,and another on the top and bottom kind of a triangle and you get plyers and pull it off ,and the flesh looks like a chicken breast mmmmmm good stuff, hope this make sense. :D

Very easy to clean once you figure them out. Don't try to cut thru the part by the fin. Go around it. Very easy, just like fileting other fish. I used to hate cleaning them, now they are a piece of cake.

No, if he did live next to me there will be no cats to feed.

I was cleaning a mess of them and these guys came in with some black seabass and i could hear them say, that i must
really be hunry to clean and eat those ugly things
but i kept quiet (hard for my azz  to do)
I even pick up a few from people coming in from charter boats.. alot of crews don't like
to mess with cleaning them.
But like was already, once you know how.. its pretty easy and its worth it...

oh hell what am i saying... Triggerfish SUCK and they arent worth the time to clean them,
so if you have any go ahead and call me..
I'll feed them to my neighors cats

Very hard to clean, taste so, so. Put them in the fridg for a couple of days and forget it. Don't even think about freezing them and eating later!!! Anyone that want's to give them to me I will take them to feed the stray cat's around.

That's why many call it Poor man's Lobster. They used to be very plentiful and of big size here in South Florida, until people found out how good they were and also before they started filling all the beaches with sand.
